Tiger and Vijay Leave Funai Classic Early

The top two golfers in the world, Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh, failed to make the cut this weekend in the Funai Classic at Disney. During his ten seasons on the PGA Tour Tiger has only missed a total of three cuts, but two of those have been this year. Since Singh also missed the cut it means Tiger locked up the money title, but he didn’t seem to care.

If money titles meant anything, I’d play more tournaments. The only thing that means a lot to me is winning. If I have more wins than anybody else and win more majors than anybody else in the same year, then it’s been a good year.

Tiger Woods

Even though Woods has missed two cuts this year it’s been a season about him finding his golf swing again. He’s had 6 victories with two of them being major championships and won nearly $10 million. I’d say it’s been a pretty successful year for Tiger.

Wilson KC4 Putter

Wilson Kirk Currie KC4 PutterWilson brings us the r7 of putters with their Kirk Currie series of putters. The KC4 putter pictured here is not one of the best looking clubs on the market, but it is often used by Padraig Harrington, so it must work.

Each putter in the Kirk Currie series is customizable with a set of weights, screws, and alignment options to make the putter fit your game and course conditions. If you don’t have that ability to buy a custom fit putter one that you can “tweak” on your own is the next best thing. As your putting stroke inproves (or gets worse) you can modify the putter to reflect your game.

Weight portals in the shaft’s end cap and sole of the putter head allows players to transfer the club’s balance point so that, regardless of greens conditions, the precision-milled Kc putter series can create the right response.

How Golf Balls Are Made

Top Flite Golf BallEver wonder how a golf ball is made? How do they create the dimples? How are the different layers of a golf ball put together? I’ve asked myself these questions many times.

Top Flite has an excellent interactive video presentation titled Golf Ball Construction, which shows the process used to make their golf balls. I thought it was very interested to hear that it takes 10 hours to complete a batch of balls.

We play the game of golf, hitting around a little white ball, but take for granted what goes into making the balls. Now that I know maybe I’ll concentrate a little harder on keeping the ball in play.

Samsung World Championship

Annika Sorenstam won the tournament for her 5th time. She actually crushed the field by 8 shots, even after taking a double bogey on the last hole. It was Sorenstam’s eighth win of the year and wrapped up her eighth LPGA Tour player of the year award. Paula Creamer, the LPGA Rookie of the year, finished in 2nd place.

Bigger headline news came from Michelle Wie though and it was not good news. In her first event as a professional she was disqualified for signing an incorrect score card. According to officials she took an illegal drop which moved her closer to the hole. She’s young and will earn from her mistake. If something like this had to happen it’s better that it did now when Annika already had the tournament in the bag.

Michelle Wie’s Swing

Take a step by step look at Michelle Wie’s swing on the Golf Digest site. It seems as thought they removed the page from the site. Wie writes that she concentrates on tempo while playing. Most weekend hackers swing too hard which causes many problems in the golf swing. Of course Michelle also averages about 280 yards with her drives so she hits it farther than most of us also.

Bad Timing For Tiger?

Tiger’s latest golf tip is Pay attention to short putts. It’s a great tip, but I don’t like the timing of it’s release. With the way John Daly lost to Tiger Woods in last week’s American Express Championship, it just seems like a slap in the face.

I’m sure Woods has plenty of other golf tips to share with the world, so why not wait to share this one?

Titleist 735.CM Irons Q&A

Titleist’s Vice President of Golf Club Marketing, Chris McGinley, answers questions about the Titleist 735.CM irons.

What type of golfer are the 735’s geared towards?
The Titleist golf club line is designed for the competitive and better player, and we have seen these clubs attracting a wide range of better golfers.

We recommend that any golfer, no matter what their talent level, be custom fit by a well trained, professional club fitter to find the appropriate model and personal specifications that work the best.

I would also recommend getting custom fit for golf clubs. When I took lessons at the beginning of the summer, the instructor took a look at my clubs and we found out I needed a thicker grip because I have such large hands.
