Have you ever wore any of Nike’s Dri-Fit clothing line? Last year I bought a few of their golf polo shirts and loved them. The shirts keep you cool and it’s really unbelievable how much they do with your sweat. It actually feels like you’re sweating less when wearing Dri-Fit apparel, but instead the clothes are grabbing the sweat and evaporating it quicker than other materials ever will.
A few weeks ago I made a trip to a local outlet mall and bought a few Dri-Fit shirts at half price which is much better than paying $50 or more for a golf shirt if you ask me. You can also find a lot of the Nike stuff on eBay for good prices.
If you aren’t up for paying the high Nike prices you might want to look into off-brand clothes as well. Earlier in the week I bought some workout clothes that I’ll use for bike riding, rollerblading, and other exercises. The company was called Fitness Gear and their line was called Hydro-FIT and it feels relatively close to the same type of material used by Nike. Shirts were 2/$25 and shorts were $15. They weren’t golf clothes, but I’m sure there is something similar out there.

Yesterday’s weather turned out to be decent for 50 degrees. The wind was almost non-existent and the sun was shining. I ended up only having to wear a light pullover in addition to my work pants and polo.
I started off the round with a good drive in the fairway, which is rare, but missed the green from inside 100 yards and ended up with a bogey. On the next two holes I nearly missed the ball on my tee shots and they ended up about 30 yards from the tee box. I took triple and double bogeys. Six over through three holes is not a good start when I have a handicap of 6 in the league. I kind of settled down after that with 2 pars and then 4 bogeys to shoot a 45 on the par 35 course. Not a great round, but nothing horrible either.
I’m definitely getting to the range in the next couple of days to work on my driver and pitch shots. Should have my new clubs around the middle of next week, but they can’t come soon enough!

The Golf Channel’s Big Break series is now on Big Break V and I can say I’ve never watched a single episode of any of the five series. Is it anything special? Am I missing out on some good golf TV?
I’ve caught a glimpse here are there for a few minutes as I was flipping through channels, but never stayed tuned in. I love playing golf and I love watching pro tournaments on TV. There’s just something about watching wanna-be pros fighting for a spot on one of the tours that turns me off. It would have to be really good TV to get me interested.
So, if you’re a BB fan convince me…

Tonight is the 2nd week of my golf league and the weather is calling for a high of 50 degrees today, which should make golfing real enjoyable. I’ll be layering up with a sweatshirt over my work clothes and then my rain gear/wind breaker and pants over the top of that. I might even wear my rain gloves to help keep my hands warm.
Not only will it be an interesting night because of the cold weather, but I took a nasty crash on my bike this weekend. My shoulder is still pretty sore when I lift it or move it too fast, so I can’t wait to see how my golf swing looks. Maybe it’ll be cold enough to numb the pain!

I’m off to a hot start with my golf this year. I’ve golfed in March for the first time in my life and I’ve already played more rounds this year than I had last year a this time in May. I shot a 37 (+2) the other night which is the 2nd best score of my life (to a 36 for +1) and I’ve had quite a few rounds in the low 40s already. I’m averaging about bogey golf so far overall.
All this…and I don’t even have my new clubs. Yes, you read that right, I’m playing the best golf of my life and I have new clubs on the way! I went through a personal club fitting and took a week and a half trying out all different types of clubs. I’ll have more on this later when the clubs actually arrive and I get a chance to see how they work for me. Should be about another week and a half.

I was glad to read that Tiger is taking a break to spend time with his father. From all the reports it doesn’t look like his dad is going to last much longer and I know if I was in his position I’d want to get as much time with my dad as I could. Golf will always be there.

On Friday morning my Dad and his buddies picked me up and we headed south to Indiana for some golfing. The first stop was in Angola, IN for lunch. Tri-State University was right across the street and their course, Zollner Golf Course, looked like a good place to start the golf season. $30 for 18 holes and a cart wasn’t too bad a price tag either. The weather wasn’t all that great when we started, but it was comfortable with jeans and a golf wind-breaker. All four of us got off the first tee and I was golfing in March for the first time in my life. What a great feeling!

GolfDigest has a great photo of David Toms and his son taken during the par 3 tournament at the Masters. Golf is a rare game where age doesn’t matter much. It’s all about the love of the game.
